FRANCOIS BRUNERY was born in Turin, Italy in 1849 and died in

1906.  He studied in Paris under Jean Leon Gerome (1824-1904) and Leon Joseph Bonnat (1834-

1923), both important 19th century academic painters.  By the

late 1800's, Brunery held a reputation as the leading artist in

the genre known as Cardinal Paintings. He began exhibiting at

the Paris Salon in 1880 and received an honorable mention in 1903. One of the most important

of the 19th century Italian Academic Classical Painters,

Brunery's paintings are prized by collectors worldwide.
