Free CD Production

I have decided to make a CD cover and back for a free CD that would come with the magazine. Institutions often do this to incite people into buying their magazine.

I have chosen a wood like background for the cover. This follows the genre of the rest of the magazine, which is indie. This genre associates itself with nature and the world, so wood is a good background. It will also

stick out from the cover of the magazine which it will be stuck onto.

The title of the CD is ‘Magic Tape Twenty’. This implies that this CD is in a series of CDs. It also sticks to the retro indie theme. I will probably change the font of the title after I have the design set out but it will be

bold, white and stand out from the rest of the CD cover.

The featured song on the CD will be by Sandcastles, which is also the band featured in the magazine. I have linked the double page spread to this CD by adding a section on the song featured. This text follows the

theme of the masthead.

Free CDs often show what other bands are on it as well, to attract more people. I have done this below the featured band in the same style of font.

I decided to add a record style mid-ground to the cover. This follows the indie retro theme and is also obviously associated with music. I chose black, blue and white as they all contrast with the text and

background.

I added some text below the title to make readers more interested in the CD. The text says that the songs on the CD are the best songs of the month.

Here, I have changed the fonts to make it look more professional. This is the final CD cover.

The back cover of the free CD is the same size and has the same background as the front cover.

The songs on the CD and the bands that play them are listed here. The band’s names are in a larger bold font and the song names are smaller.

Here I have added the CD logo, and copyright information, which are both conventions for all free CDs. I have decided to keep the back cover simple, as it is not seen when people pick up the magazine and most free

CD’s have simple back covers so that readers can see which songs there are without being bombarded with information.

As a finishing touch, I have added a stroke effect to the text, which follows the text on the front cover.

I have decided to change the colour as the brown didn’t look very professional. This colour looks a lot more interesting and really highlights the text.

I also changed the colour on the back cover. I changed the colour of the song names as well, to a colour used on the front. This makes the back more interesting as well as contrasting the band names.
