THE INTEGRATION

Nurseries

GPE Parks

Processing

Plant

• In the beginning… Seedlings. Target production is 2 million seedlings annually

• We have set up three major nurseries in the different parts of the country in order to meet the demabd as well as ease the distribution challenges

• Setting up joint nurseries with KFS in order to scale out faster

Nurseries

• We are able to create critical mass of forests to set up factories. We create bamboo concentrate clusters in different bamboo viable zones.– Gated Community of Forests– Large Scale Partnerships– Out grower Program– Large Scale Restoration

Advantages of Gated Community

Community Outreach• We have an aggressive community outreach going

hand-in-hand with Gated Communities. This is a region by region contract farming program that encourages individual small scale and medium scale farmers to grow bamboo on behalf of the company.

• After identifying regions that are suitable for bamboo, we work with grass-root agents to create awareness, train and recruit farmers.

• Target is 3000 acres on this program yearly

Outreach Model

• The greatest impact of all is the opportunity given to farmers to create wealth through job creation and stable income for the farmers

• Since the farmers are already seasoned n farming, the transition in bamboo

Advantages of Outreach

Where We Operate

• Degraded lands contribute to climate change (24% GHGs)

• In response to the Bonn challenge Kenya has identifies 50.3 million hectares for restorsation. Government committed to restoring 10% (5.1 million hectares)

• This is a great opportunity to scale out as we do good. The initiatives could include:–River bank and riparian land restorarion –Forest restoration–Gullies and wasteland restoration

This is done in partnership with organized community groups such as WRUA’s (Water resource associations), CFA’s (Community Forest associations) and corporate organizations. Through this effort we have been able to champion a number of restoration projects which include: • Mara River riparian land restoration (erosion)• South West Mau CFA restoration(deforestation)• Lake Magadi de-silting project (erosion and gully

restoration)

Bamboo Value Chain

Green Pot has embarked on the third phase of its integration process which is the establishment of bamboo processing factories. To this end, Green Pot has identified prospective partners and currently a lot of work is going on towards finalizing this phase.

The Industries

Cottage IndustryCottage industry is key in developing bamboo. We have very skilled handicraft workmanship that we would want to tap into. This is key to our CSR endeavors.

Lessons Learned

Government and private sector must work together in order to grow a vibrant bamboo industry. There is a need to support local communities plant bamboo. The international community will play a great role in this area through resource mobilization.
