• RecognitionfromtheGlobalSustainableTourismCouncil(GSTC)isbeingsought.

QualityStandards–Recommendations

•  EarlyimplementationassoonasrecognitionfromGSTCisobtained.

• Majordevelopment,includingGovernmentbuildingsshouldbeLEEDCertified.

• Beinggiventhattourismisacross-cuttingsector,thereisaneedforallothersectorstofollowinternationalsustainablebenchmarks/standards.

Handicraft – Findings (1 of 3)

•  Oneofthemainprinciplesofsustainabledevelopment-thecommunityshouldbenefitfromtheindustry.Handicraftisonesectorwhichcouldprovideopportunitiesfortheunemployed.

•  FundingisbeingsoughtbySMEDAtoembarkonaqualitycertificationforatleast20products.MSBwillworkwithSMEDAthereon.

•  TheMinistryofAgroindustryhassetupabody(MauritiusAgriculturalCertificationBody)totrainandcertifyfarmers.

•  Thereshouldbeconstantdialoguebetweenrelevantpartnerstoavoidfurtherdegradationandtotakenecessarystepsforurgentrehabilitation.
