Integrating our immigrant and refugee neighbors into the life of our City

Equity in Practice means:

Partnering with one or several MAAs(traditional community elders and smart-alecky civic activists)

Together designing and developing then delivering a super-duper City service into an underserved neighborhood.

3. HOW IT WORKS: Identify mutual assistance associations (YES,

EVERY CITY HAS PLENTY) in your service area Then mix up immigrant optimism with someone offering a very valuable City service

4. HOW THIS WORKSMAA elders and civic activists payday is their community’s affection and

respect. In short: Our elders and civic activists must bring home the goodies –

ie: community gardens; community policing; sidewalks, crosswalks, and street lights; mobile playgrounds; healthy and happy family recreation opportunities . . .

– in order to meet traditional expectations (keeping face)

HOW THIS WORKS (last time)Move mainstream assets into existing ethnic stream

systems (We love that democracy stuff – we love our dutiful

leaders)Partner with MAAs to design and develop then delivera super-duper City service in our neighborhood
