WHAT IS OBESITY?

- Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased health problems.

- Is caused by a combination of excessive daily calories.

CAUSED BY

Lack of physical activity › (30 – 45 minutes / per day)

Genetic susceptibility Genes, Endocrine disorders, Medications Psychiatric illness Excessive eating!

EFFECTS ON Various disease

Cancer• Breathing difficulties during sleep (snoring) Osteoarthritis

DEATH AND SHORT LIFE EXPECTANCY

OBJECTIVES: To know whether or not the fact that

obesity could really be a potential risk of health amongst Bruneian.

To know the public’s general view towards obesity.

To know their(public) physical activity & eating habits.

BMI

- Body Mass Index- Is a measurement which compares weight and

height.- Defines people as overweight (pre-obese) when

their BMI is between 25kg/m2 and 30kg/m2- Obese when it is greater than 30kg/m2

TYPE OF BMI

Underweight : > 18.5

Normal weight : 18.6 – 24.9

Overweight : 25 – 29.9

Obesity : 30 <

SOLUTION

Control on your diet. Replace oily foods with steam or boiled food.

Parents should be concern of their children’s health especially in terms of what they eat. Encourage them to eat healthy food.

Encourage the children to involved in outdoor activities. Organized sports like running, hiking, cycling etc

Self discipline. For the obese people, it is best for them to get a

personal trainer to lose weight in workouts.
