STEP 1: LEARN ABOUT THE

DIABETES Diabetes means that the blood glucose is too high.

These are the main types of diabetes

Type 1 diabetes Type 2 diabetes Gestational diabetes

STEP 2: KNOW DIABETES THE ABCS

The ABCs of Diabetes Control 

A = A1C B = Blood pressure C = Cholesterol

STEP 3: MANAGE THE DIABETES

DIABETES FOOD PYRAMID

Eat healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables fish lean meats chicken or turkey without the skin dry peas or beans whole grains low-fat or skim milk cheese

Eat foods with more fiber such as

whole-grain cereals breads Rice or pasta

A1C test – it may be checked more often if it is over 7

Once each year be sure you have a:

Cholesterol test Triglyceride test Complete foot exam

Dental exam to check teeth and gums

Dilated eye exam to check for eye problems

Urine and a blood test to check for kidney problems

DIABETES IN SOCIETY Achieving a healthy body weight and taking

moderate exercise, at least 30 minutes of daily exercise, can help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.
