Implementation of the “National Project for Petroleum Exploration” through the Petroleum Department of the Natural Resources Authority (NRA).

Following the preliminarily results of the studies. The Kingdom was divided in 9 Exploration Blocks with ranking potentials for Hydrocarbons as concluded from the initial studies.

Execution of reconnaissance Seismic surveys of about 15 thousand line Km; geological and geophysical studies were carried out in the different sedimentary basins.

Drilling rigs were hired to drill about 7 exploratory and wildcat wells. Oil shows were encountered in few wells, but there was no commercial breakthrough so far.

Source Rocks:

•The middle Cambrian Burj group

•Permian-Triassic and Jurassic rocks,

they are in the oil window in Damascus

basin,

•Good quality lower Turonian source is

available in Azraq basin just east of the

area.

Reservoir Rocks:

•Permian, Triassic and Jurassic Sst and

Carbonates

•Middle Cambrian Fractured Dolomite

•Lower Cambrian Sst
