Protecting Your Kids From Summer Sun

Are Your Children Safe?• With the hot summers beating down, it’s

important to take extra precautions to make sure out kids are being safe against harmful UV rays.

Infants (0-6 Months)

Infants should be kept out of direct sunlight. At this age, their skin is too sensitive for sunscreen. It is also more susceptible to UV rays. The best thing to do is to dress them in light protective clothing and cover their faces with wide-brimmed hats.

Babies (6-12 Months)• Apply the best natural s

unscreen with an SPF of 15+ at least 30 minutes before going outside. Be sure to reapply every 2 hours for maximum protection.

When To Avoid The Sun

• Avoid unnecessary exposure when the sun’s rays are at its peak (usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.). Even on cooler days, UV rays are extremely strong during these times, making it easier for your child to get burned.

Be A Role Model

Be a good role model for your kids. Your children might not understand the importance of sun safety, but you do. So lead by example by practicing safe sun exposure and your child will follow suit.

Remember…

• Remember that sun safety shouldn’t be just for the summer! Be sure to keep practicing these tips year-round.
