The Valentine Richmond History Center launched Richmond History Makers in 2005 to annually recognize, honor and celebrate those everyday citizens and outstanding organizations that are making significant contributions to the greater Richmond region Nominations Public nominations are accepted each year beginning on May 1st and ending on June 30th. Nominees should be individuals, companies and organizations who are benefiting our community by mentoring best practices, leading successful initiatives and contributing positively through innovative methods. Nominees should be selected based upon distinction in one of the following categories: Creating Quality Educational Opportunities: Nominee will have enhanced educational opportunities for citizens, improved academic achievement, or ensured a safe, constructive learning environment. Demonstrating Innovative Solutions: Nominee will have demonstrated innovation and vision in making the Richmond region a better place to live, work, or visit. Encouraging Regional Collaboration: Nominee will have endeavored to bring together regional entities to create a new synergy and improve efficiency and effectiveness. Improving Social Justice: Nominee will have shown a commitment to promoting diversity, access and opportunity for all. Promoting Stronger Communities: Nominee will have worked to address problems, develop initiatives, or make lasting improvements that result in stronger, more stable communities. Celebration Each of the five honorees are recognized at the annual Richmond History Makers Celebration in October at the Valentine Richmond History Center.
