Gone Rogue

One liner.

A kidnapper has lost the plot and taken revenge on a victim, the motive behind it is discovered through many flashbacks uncovering the past.

Target audience

Our film has a kidnap opening, and is aimed at anyone who enjoys action and thrillers (male or female). Our film opening will mainly be targeted for teenagers(15+) as it shows scenes of violence, however it isn't overly explicit (no death).

The key points to attract this audience is to make it tense and suspense, usually seen with physiological movies-(movies make people think about the story) in order to keep the audience on the edge of their seat.

Themes

Gone rogue fits under two genres. It has the theme of a teen drama as it's based on events that occur everyday to different people (bullying), but in this case the victim gets their own back giving it a theme of a thriller, so we are calling it a Teen Thriller. We will also have a theme of revenge throughout the opening sequence as the person who was bullied is getting revenge on the bully by doing the things he did to him, to the bully.

Key characters

Two characters, one victim (male) and one kidnapper (male).

Roughly same age to show they are both in the same year.

Kidnapper: dark clothing, in control, has control of most props, low social status but gains high status through violence and dominance.

Victim: rough, blood on clothes, bag on head (breathable) and tied to a chair. Big in appearance but looks vulnerable on the surface.

Clear difference between two characters needed, victim needs to appear bigger in appearance to the kidnapper as the victim is a bully.

Real text.

We watched the film openings on planet E-stream and then saw the following films: Taken, the transporter, held hostage.

Sound and Camerawork.

Some of the most frequent angles we are going to use are high and low angles. We are using a low angle on the kidnapper so that they look bigger and more powerful, whilst using a high angle to make the victim look puny and insignificant.

For sound, diegetic and nondiegetic are needed. This means we need both music to create emotion, and sound effects to make the scene realistic.

Some diegetic sounds we are using are characters voices and sounds like crushing leaves. Non diegetic sounds will mainly be the music we are using, we will be using some sharp and jumpy music to create a thriller atmosphere.

Mise en sceneProps and equipment- bag, chair, cable ties or rope, candles, a cork board, syringe, photos/images and a music player of some sorts.

set- this will be in a dark area/room, an enclosed space,

lighting- Low key lighting, artificial light e.g. candle light

sound( diegetic and nondiegetic)- we want heavy breathing(panting), a few lines of character voices, sounds from actions, we also want music in the background which doesn’t over power the diegetic sounds.

costumes-

Kidnapper: Gloves, black top, dark trousers, a mask. All outdated.

Kidnapped person: ripped clothing, bloody top, looking rough.

Editing

During flashbacks we want to use very low contrast (dull and boring) colours to make a clear difference from the present and the past.

Continuity editing, few jump cuts. 180 degree rule, rule of thirds.

Some fast jump cuts to create tension.

Stimulus.

The stimulus for the kidnapping is subtly revealed during the opening sequence using flashbacks at certain points within the sequence.

Atmosphere.

Flashbacks

Plus more people laughing.
