THE HISTORY

The British Empire in India was also called the British “Raj”.

The Raj lasted from 1858 to 1947

The East India Company lost control in 1858 after a century

THE RAJ

When the Raj was formed in 1858 the British fought in what was called the Great Rebellion

This lasted nearly two years and cost the British £36 million.

Raj means in Hindi “to rule” or “kingdom”

THE PARTITION (I.E. THE END OF THE EMPIRE)

Pakistan was made in order to be a Muslim country.

India chose to be a Secular country

The Indians have been following the British Legal System

This makes it easier to do business with International industries

This is because a lot of countries understand and use the British Legal System

INDIAN SPORT (CRICKET)

Cricket was introduced to the Indians via the British while the empire still stood

Now cricket is the main sport in India with the national team being arguably the best in the world.

POVERTY

It took a long time for the Indians to come out of poverty (they still are in poverty)

This was because of the License Raj, which meant that permission was needed for certain law changes

The British looted many natural resources including cotton and wool

A very notable jewel taken from the Indians was the jewel in the Imperial Crown Of India

THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The two official languages in India are Hindi and English

English is one of the business languages of the world and therefore makes trading much easier.

80% of the Indian population will know how to speak English

It is the language taught in schools in India
