Curry Todd: Basketball

Curry Todd has been a constituent of the Tennessee

House of Representatives since 1998. Before that he

was a businessman, and before that a Memphis

Police Official.

But before any of these things, Curry Todd was a

standout basketball player in high school, good

enough to have received numerous scholarship

offers from colleges and universities all around the

country.

To this day, Curry Todd is the only Tennessee high

school basketball player to make the All-Memphis

team four years in a row.

He also made it to the All-Shelby County basketball

team for three years, and was named the Shelby

County Player of the Year.

Curry Todd was elected a high school All-American in

Scholastic and Parade magazines and named the

Tennessee Player of the Year. And in one of the

greatest accolades accorded a young basketball

player, Curry Todd's basketball jersey number was

retired when high school playing days were over.

Curry Todd was a sought-after college prospect who

was inundated with offers from colleges. UCLA, the

University of Kentucky, the University of Tennessee,

Duke University, the University of North Carolina,

Texas A&M, Connecticut, and the University of

Southern California all expressed interested in

getting Curry Todd into their basketball programs.

And that is just to name a few.

But when it came time to make a decision, Curry

Todd nominated to stay close to home, and chose

the University of Memphis, which at the time was

known as Memphis State University, where he

remained a high scored averaging sixteen points per

game.
