Common Questions & Challenges
My partner district says my students have to buy their insurance…. do they?
– Host district must approve of coverage• They know what local hospitals/medical providers will
accept
– Coverage must meet or exceed RI minimum requirements• They may require additional coverage based on local needs• If local laws require that certain coverage be purchased, a
“gap” policy may be necessary
TITLE | 8
Common Questions & Challenges
I just found out that the coverage that my district recommends does not meet RI requirements. …What do I do?
– Talk to your insurance broker • These requirements have been met in many countries! • You may combine different policies to meet the
requirements, if necessary
– Contact the Insurance Working Group for assistance in working with your broker• Currency fluctuations are unavoidable
TITLE | 9
Common Questions & Challenges
Why can’t we have a global travel insurance policy to cover all students on Rotary Youth Exchange?
– A survey was conducted in 2011: the majority of districts would only support a global policy if it was voluntary
– Local insurance/nationalized healthcare would still be required in certain areas
