Fiber to Fabric

Lets Play a Game…………………Identify The Fibers of the clothes :-

Cotton Silk Wool

How clothes are made ??????

FibersNatural fibers

The fibers of some fabrics such as cotton, jute, silk and wool are obtained from plants and animals. These are called Natural Fibers.

Synthetic FibersSynthetic fabrics are textiles made from man-made rather than natural fibers. Some examples of synthetic fabrics are polyester, acrylic, nylon, rayon, acetate, spandex, latex and Kevlar.

I wonder ………………………………

I wonder what fiber is this suit made up of???

Armor Suit is a protective covering that is used to prevent damage from being inflicted to an object, individual, or vehicle by direct contact weapons or projectiles, usually during combat, or from damage caused by a potentially dangerous environment or action.

It is made up of steel.

Plant Fibers

Cotton

Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective capsule, around the seeds of cotton plants. The fruits of the cotton plant (cotton bolls) are about the size of lemon. After maturing, the bolls burst open and the seeds covered with cotton fibers can be seen.Fibers are then separated from seeds by combining. This is called Ginning. These days machines are used for ginning.

Jute

Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber that can be spun into coarse, strong threads. It is cultivated in West Bengal, Bihar and Assam during Rainy season. The plant is harvested when it is at flowering stage and then its stems are immersed in water for few days. The stems rot and fibers are separated by hand.

YarnsYarn is a long continuous length of interlocked fibers, suitable for use in the production of textiles, sewing, crocheting, knitting, weaving, embroidery, and rope making.

Yarns The process of making yarn from fibers is called Spinning. In this process, fibers from a mass of cotton wool are drawn out and twisted. This brings the fibers together to form a yarn.

A simple device used for spinning is a hand spindle called Takhli.

Another hand operated device used for spinning is Charkha. Use of charkha was popularized by Mahatma Gandhi as part of the Independence movement. He encouraged people to wear clothes made of homespun yarn and shun imported cloth made in the mills of Britain. Spinning of yarn on large scale is done with help of spinning machines.

Weaving

Weaving is a method of fabric production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth.

Weaving

A Handloom is a simple machine used for weaving. In a wooden vertical-shaft looms, the heddles are fixed in place in the shaft.

Handloom Power loomA Power loom is a mechanized loom powered by a line shaft, and was one of the key developments in the industrialization of weaving during the early Industrial Revolution.

Knitting

Knitting is a method by which yarn is manipulated to create a textile or fabric.

Innovation !!!!!

Cocona Fabric is a textile that has been created from coconut shells that have been recycled (made from an eco-friendly source, check!). For example, Cocona textiles are fast drying (92% faster than cotton), meaning the wearer spends less time in wet clothes, and the garment spends less time in the dryer.

Early Human Clothes

Humans began to wear clothing 170,000 years ago, concludes a new study that suggests our ancestors first put on clothes after the second-to-last Ice Age, when being nude must have been too cool for comfort. The evidence comes from seemingly very unfashionable lice, since scientists tracked when head lice evolved into clothing/body lice around 170,000 years ago.
