Love is…

“Tell me why the stars do shine, Tell me why the ivy twines, Tell me what makes skies so blue, And I'll tell you why I love you.

Nuclear fusion makes stars to shine, Tropisms make the ivy twine, Raleigh scattering make skies so blue, Testicular hormones are why I love you. ”

― Isaac Asimov

We have three types of love

1. Romantic love

2. Sexual drive

3. Long term attachment

Today we are concentrating on romantic love

Anyway, today is St. Valentine’s Day

What is love?

Or…

Something magical…

Love as it is seen by neuroscientists

Some words to learnNeuron – a cell of nervous system.

Neurons contact each other by means of special molecules – mediators.

Neuron №1 Neuron №2

Mediator

Mediators can be different

End each mediator has its special function:

Everything which we do or feel is because of mediators: sleep, move, feel, think, LOVE

Love is real: evidence 1Animals do feel love (at least some of them).

For example elephants.

Elephants are in love with each other for 5 days

And another examples:

Some species of rodents (грызуны) can feel love too.

At least for 30 seconds.

And definitely human beings can love.

Evidence 2Our brain and whole organism are changingwhen we feel love

The first symptom of love is…

“special meaning”Not only the sweetheart…

…but everything connected with him (her) seems absolutely unique!

• That is because of dopamine

When we fall in love, we can:

walk all night long…without any sleep

That because of dopamine

too!

We feel euphoric!

That because of dopamine again!Dopamine is a really amazing mediator!

We think about him (or her) every minute, every second of every day…

• That is because of serotonin:

Another changes:

The heart pounding

The sweaty palm syndrome

That’s probably high norepinephrine in the brain

So the mediators of love are:

• Dopamine -

• Serotonine

• Norepinephrine

thinking about sweetheart

special meaning

everything else

Is Eternal Love possible?

Fortunately, from scientific point of view, it is =)At least for someone.

Long-term romantic love?Yes And not at all

But commonly, yes ;)

Romantic love as intensive as in the beginning of relationship is inachievable =(

But romantic feelings… yes, they are possible!

What do we have to do to keep love?

Science says the only thing we need is dopamine

?

Where can we get it?

Pharmacy?

Definitely, not!

Can I have a piece of

dopamine?

Does this recommendation help you?

• Just take up something new together

It’s much simpler!

It's a piece of cake ))))))))))

And your dopamine level will grow!

The happy end of our dream ))))

So what is love?As scientists we can tell that love is definitely something magical

Some magical feelings which have a particular physiological basis

Enjoy!
