These plains have vast agricultural fields along with the large water source underlying much of the region. Wheat is the main crop of these plains.

THE INDUS VALLEY PLAINS

The Indus valley plain has a large fertile land that runs along the rivers; the Indus River, River Jhelum, etc. These lands are fulfilling the needs of basic food supply to the people and playing important role in the growing economy of the country.

THE INDO-GANGETIC PLAINS

These plains are home to nearly 1/7 of the world’s population. The area is also rich in ground water sources. The plains are the world’s most intensely farmed areas. The main crops grown are rice and wheat, maize, sugarcane and cotton.

IMPORTANCE

THE NORTH CHINA PLAIN

The plain covers an area of about 409,500 square kilometers. This flat plain is the main area of millet, maize, and Cotton production in China. Wheat and peanuts are also grown here. The plain is one of the most densely populated regions in the world. Beijing, the national capital, is located on the northeast edge of the plain.
