•  2nd  Except-­‐means,  you  are  permiQed  to  park  your  passenger  or  commercial  vehicle  on  Sundays.  (yea!).  

NO  Trumps  YES  • Red  sign  on  top  versus  White  sign  on  boQom  of  the  gotcha  pole  • Red  says  NO  • White  says  YES  • N0  Trumps  Yes  during  the  days/hours  rule  on  red  sign  is  in  effect

•  You  can  beat  a  NYC  parking  Jcket  if  you  present  the  proper  proof  properly  that  a  parking  sign  changing  the  parking  rule  was  installed  within  5  days  of  the  issuance  of  your  parking  Jcket

Here’s  a  red  sign  behind  your  car,  with  the  arrow  pointing  to  your  parking  space  

What  parking  sign  regulates  your  parking  space?  

•  The  answer  is…  BOTH!    •  A  parking  sign  regulates  all  parking  spaces  in  the  direcJon(s)  of  the  arrow(s)  unJl  the  next  parking  sign,  or  end  of  the  block  

•  In  this  example,  the  car  is  parked  in  two  parking  zones.  The  front  end  of  the  car  is  parking  in  the  zone  regulated  by  the  street  cleaning  sign,  while  the  rear  of  the  car  is  parked  in  the  zone  regulated  by  the  red  no  standing  except…  sign  

•  The  more  restricJve  rule  wins.  You  cannot  park  here  legally  if  the  rule  on  one  sign  permits  parking,  while  the  rule  on  the  other  sign  prohibits  parking.  No  trumps  yes.

LIMITED  PARKING  •  This  sign  indicates  that  you  may  park  your  vehicle  up  to  the  number  of  hours  indicated  in  the  top  le[  corner  of  the  sign  •  The  “Except  Sunday”  means  you  can  park  your  car  to  the  right  or  le[  of  this  sign  all  day  on  Sundays  

NO  STANDING,  EXCEPT,  EXCEPT  •  No  standing  regulaJons  apply  during  specified  hours  (7A-­‐7P)  

•  Except  commercial  vehicles  or  trucks  can  stand  to  the  right  or  le[  of  sign  and  must  pay  the  meter  

•  3  hour  limit  (commercial  vehicles  can’t  stand/park  for  more  than  3  hours)  

•  Second  Except  means  any  type  of  vehicle  can  park  to  the  right  or  le[  of  this  sign  on  Sundays
