Friday evening, Lerwick Town Hall, sweet sounds drifting through the corridors, packed audience enjoying some of the best jazz music played on these isles in many a long year. The treat for committed jazz fans was a visit to Shetland by the Alyn Cosker Quartet and this Friday concert was the first of a stupendous weekend of music provided by four inspired musicians.

This was a truly excellent gig and the next night at Bigton Hall was even better. A guy came up to me in the interval and said, “When they told me Alyn Cosker was coming to Bigton I could hardly believe it – this is fabulous.” The atmosphere at Bigton was electric and every nuance of every solo was given appreciation and applause. Both concerts also featured the excellent Norman and the Folding Deckchairs, who get better with every outing and hold a special place in the future of Shetland jazz.
