•The church had suffered persecution already

•They had remained faithful, even in the face of martyrdom

The Compromise

•Some held to the teachings of those who would lead them to idolatry and immorality

•The teachings of Balaam and of the Nicolaitasns seemed to be the spirit of compromise with the surrounding culture

Repent!

• Jesus threatens the visitation of judgment
