39 Where Do I Put My Hope?

1 I said to myself, “I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.”

39

2But as I stood there in silence— not even speaking of good things

— the turmoil within me grew worse. 3The more I thought about it, the hotter I got, igniting a fire

of words:

39

To believe that sin management is your responsibility

is a serious error.

4“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me

that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is.

39

5You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand.

My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of

us is but a breath.”

39

6We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy

rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who

will spend it.

39

7And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.

39

8Rescue me from my rebellion. Do not let fools mock me. 9I am silent before you; I won’t say a

word, for my punishment is from you.

39

10But please stop striking me! I am exhausted by the blows from

your hand.

39

11When you discipline us for our sins, you consume like a moth what is precious to us. Each of

us is but a breath.

39

It is vitally necessary for you to talk to Jesus about your suffering

or discipline to learn His instructive intent.

12Hear my prayer, O LORD! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t

ignore my tears. For I am your guest—a traveler passing

through, as my ancestors were before me.

Ps 51:17 - The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. NLT

1 Peter 2:11-12 - Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.

12Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world. NLT

Don’t make your residency here.

Don’t set up shop as though you will never be leaving.

Pursue the Eternal, which is reflective of your True Home.

13Leave me alone so I can smile again before I am gone and exist

no more. NLT

39

Psalm 31:10 - I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within. NLT

But there is Hope in GOD.

Application

Our proclaimed theology

requires feet.

But, humbling yourself under the Sovereign determination of

God’s activities shows honor to Him.

Submitting to His will without complaining is our necessary

part in spiritual maturity.

Hope and Humilityare our weapons against

fear and complaining.
