I GOT THE ROCK FROM ROCK

HOUNDS

These rocks are formed when a volcano erupts the lava cools on the other rocks. Then over time little crystals are formed.

These rocks have little crystal flaks from lava.

How is This Rock Formed?

Little pieces of earth get broken down and worn away. They are washed downstream where they settle to the bottom of the lakes, rivers, and oceans. Layer after layer is deposited on top of each. These layers are pressed down more and more through time, until the bottom layers slowly turn into rock.

Characteristics

Layered appearance, maybe fossils.

Common Rocks

Sandstone, Limestone, Shale, Conglomerate, and Gypsum.

Limestone from Rock Hounds.

Sandstone from Rock Hounds.

We have come to the conclusion that our rock is an igneous rock. We know this because if you look close, there are big crystals and small crystals. Not little flakes.
