Francis Drake was an English seafarer, a corsair, a vice-admiral. He was a first of British who commited circumnavigation. He participated in many battles and he often won them.

Francis Drake was born in Kroundeyl, near Teyvistoke (Tenvistonn) in the Devanshire. His father, Edmund Drake, was a farmer. Francis was the eldest son of twelve children. Then the Drakes moved to Kent. At the age of twelve Francis became a shipboy at the cargo ship. His capitan becueased ship to him. At the age of eighteen he became the capitan at this ship.

November 15, 1577 Drake was sent by the Queen Elizabeth I to the expedition to the Pacific coast of America. The Official purpose of travelling was the discovery of new lands. In fact, Drake had to loot as possible and Spanish gold with this burden to return to England.

Passing the Straits of Magellan, Drake was thrown by the storm to the south of Tierra del Fuego, thereby discovering that it wasn’t the part of the southern continent . The place between Antarctica and Tierra del Fuego was later named after him.

Drake walked along the Pacific coast of the South America to the north attacking Spanish ports, including Valpariso, and then explored the coast far to the north of Spanish colonies to about contemporary Vancouver. Drake died from dysentery January 28, 1596 near Puerto Bello. He was buried in the ocean in a lead coffin.
