Arthur Milton, born in 1928, occupies a place in English sporting history that in all probability will not be usurped. He was the last player to perform a feat.

His first class career spanned over 25 years and managed to play 6 test matches as well. He later coached future internationals like Vic Marks etc.

Mike Vockins published a biography last year titled, “Arthur Milton: ___ ____ __ __ ________.” The title of the book reveals Arthur Milton’s feat.

Highest average in test cricket. Andy Ganteaume scored a hundred and was never picked again for the West Indies.

Norman Callaway scored 207 in his only first class innings and after that took part in World War 1 where he died during the second battle of Bullecourt in France.

Just prior to the Bodyline series, Don Bradman wanted to play professional cricket in England. He was eventually stopped by X, who offered him a job as a reporter with his newspaper. This led to further controversy as ACB would not allow Bradman to write while playing cricket. X, in the interest of the nation asked Bradman to forget about writing and play for Australia. X had a grandson, who is famous for his involvement with cricket among other things?

If he had played for Lancashire, he would have earned 3₤ a week during the summer and 1₤ a week during the winter. He decided to play in the Lancashire and Bradford Leagues who paid him 8₤ a week for the entire year. During 35 years of cricket, he played only 2 full seasons of county cricket for a total of 6 championship games. Yet good enough to be selected for 27 Tests. Who?

7. What is unusual?

George Simpson-Hayward played 5 tests for England at the start of the 20th century. His bowling style has been described as unusual right arm off break. He seldom flighted the ball and bowled with a lower trajectory, faster speed but still managed to get sufficient turn. He is considered to be the last serious exponent of this unusual form of bowling. What is unusual about it?

11. Failure to communicate

A joke in the Indian cricket circles before Ganguly. For a long time, Bengal (and East Zone)’s most significant contribution to Indian cricket was the failure of its representative to attend a crucial selection meeting in the 1970’s. Why?
