OIL SPILLS

By Nick White and Brandon Beane

OIL SPILLS ARE OCCURRING ALL OVER THE

WORLD .

And they are

affecting nature!

Birds

Hermit crabs

27 oil spills occur daily.

Some are big,

And some are small.

BETWEEN 1967 AND 1989, THE FIFTEEN

LARGEST OIL SPILLS SPEWED OVER 14,000,000

BARRELS OF OIL INTO THE SEAS AND LAND.

Animals

obviously don’t

like that.

THAT’S MORE THAN THE

FIFTEEN LARGEST OIL SPILLS

OF 1967-1989!ABOUT

129,000,000 GALLONS MORE

In 1979 the Ixtoc

oil refinery drilled

into a oil pool

releasing

140,000,000

gallons of oil.

THE GULF OIL RIG THAT SANK IN APRIL 20 2010

LEAKED FOR 89 DAYS AND IS THE WORLDS LARGEST

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE OF OIL.

IF WE DON’T ACT SOON THE ENVIRONMENT

WILL BECOME A OIL SPILL FILLED WASTELAND

You may

even see

less beach

and more of

this.

Unique species could

turn extinct by getting

hypothermia.

Like

the

pelican

and

the

sea

otters

OIL SPILLS

AFFECT US

TOO.

When oil spills occur oil

toxins fly in the air we

breath in!

BUT THEY ARE INEFFECTIVE

IN MOST CASES DUE TO OIL

HARDENING AND SINKING

TO THE OCEAN FLOOR.

Booms are used to

clean up some oil from

spills.

HERE’S HOW

YOU CAN HELP

YOU CAN TELL YOUR PARENTS TO

INSTALL SOLAR PANELS TO

REDUCE THE USE OF OIL.

YOU COULD

DONATE

MONEY TO

HELP

PREVENT OIL

SPILLS.

IF WE ALL DO THOSE LITTLE THINGS WE COULD

HELP PREVENT OIL FROM BEING SHIPPED OR

DRILLED.

IF WE TRY, WE CAN CHANGE

THE WORLD.
