DESCRIPTION

Campus Technology, June 5, 2012 Indiana University, Purdue University - Fort Wayne is the 5th largest University in Indiana with an FTE of slightly over 10,000. Their approach to closed captioning came from need: they had a hearing impaired student who needed assistance and needed it quickly. Their vendor selection criteria included the ability of the captioning service to work with Tegrity, Kaltura, Echo 360, and MediaSite. They chose 3Play Media for their captioning needs. Their integration has postured Indiana in the most proactive way possible to meet the needs of their hearing impaired students, while reflecting positively on IPFW as being not only fiscally responsible, but having a very functional plan, foundation, and workflow moving forward. Georgia Tech uses 3Play Media and Tegrity's automated captioning integration. 3Play Media also provides transcripts and alternate captioning files for other formats as a backup. With their very competitive price, Georgia Tech has captioned 100 hours of video with 3Play Media since August. Georgia Tech's Process: - Edit recording to keep cost down - Flag for captioning - Admin approves the captioning - 3Play media captions it and 2 days later it appears Presenters: Mike Phillips Media Services Technologist Indiana University, Purdue University - Fort Wayne Matt Lewis Instructional Media Services Coordinator Georgia Tech Linda Briggs Contributing Editor Campus Technology

So, given the position we were in a year ago . . . In a reactive situation, we have postured

ourselves in the most proactive way possible to meet the needs of our hearing impaired

students, while reflecting positively on IPFW as being not only fiscally responsible, but

having a very functional plan, foundation and workflow moving forward.
