Definition: Going around an object once

The Earth revolves around the sun.

Each time the Earth revolves around the sun = ONE YEAR

Rotation

Definition: spinning around or turning all the way around on an axis one time

The Earth rotates on its axis (the north and south poles)

Each time the Earth rotates around = ONE DAY

AxisIs an imaginary line that goes through the North and South

Earth’s Rotation

Every 24 hours the Earth rotates (spins on its axis)

This is what causes day and night

Earth rotates counter clockwise

Earth’s Revolution

Every year (365 days) is one revolution of the Earth around the Sun

This is what causes the different seasons

Moon’s Rotation

18.61 years for the moon to make a complete rotation

Moon’s Revolution

27.32 days long for the Moon to revolve

Moon PhasesPhases are the different shapes the moon seems to have in the sky.

Moon goes through all its phases in 29 ½ days

There are 7 phases to the moon

When Earth’s shadow falls on the moon

When Moon’s shadow falls on Earth
