Lets discuss…• Is planning important?• Was planning essential in building the
plane you see in the video? How? • What everyday examples of planning
can you think of?
DefinitionWhat is planning?• A scheme, program, or method
worked out beforehand for the accomplishment of an Objective.
Objective
• A desired result you want to achieve• The objectives must:
– be focused on a result, not an activity– be consistent– be specific– be measurable– be related to time– be attainable
Purpose of a Plan• Provides direction • Reduces uncertainties • Provides opportunity to analyze
alternate courses of actions • Minimizes impulsive and arbitrary
decisions
The Planning Procedure
1. Consider the task• Who is involved?• What is it?• Where is it?• When is it? • Why is a plan needed? • How to do it?
The Planning Procedure2. Analysis
• Consider objectives - gives you the direction in which you should proceed to accomplish your objectives
• Consider the time, physical and human resources available to the group, i.e
• Datelines (the time)• Logistics (physical)• Budget (physical)• Location (physical)• Weather (Physical)• Manpower (Human resources)
3. Generate alternatives/ Brainstorm solutions
• Examine as many solutions/ responses to the solve problem/ achieve objectives
• Create ideas!

The Planning Procedure4. Implementation
• Make a decision• Analyze all the information gathered
and choose the best solution• Draft your action plan
5. Evaluation• Look at what happened• Identify mistakes and learn from good
practices
Homework• Flip to a new page in your exercise page • Write the following in a fresh page…
1. Consider the Task/Assignment/Role2. Analysis - Objectives3. Resources/Constraints4. Implementation - My Action Plan
• Self reflect, team discuss if you need!
An simple example…Consider the Task/Assignment/Role
• i.e Organize a BBQ Session at XXX
Objective(s)• Carry out a BBQ session for 20 participants at XXX at the end
of the course
Resources/Constraints• Any BBQ equipment available?• Who are the participants? Alumni? Teachers? Instructors?• Are participants willing to pay? Is $10 comfortable?• Any food issues? Halal, vegetarian etc• When’s a good day to carry out the BBQ? • Consent form needed? • Location – ECP, Pasir Ris Park, Compassvale? • Wet weather plan needed?
