FSRU Docking and Mooring System General Observations
This presentation is focused on onshore/near shore docking and mooring FSRU applications
Majority of current projects are floating onshore regas We are finding that floating regas are more complex from a
mooring system integration standpoint The docking and mooring system elements tend to be
considered in isolation LNGC/FSRU – Shipbuilder focusing on primarily FSRU
Ship-to-Ship mooring system hardwareFSRU/LNG Jetty – Civil EPC focusing on jetty
construction The total mooring system must be considered entirety The “system” includes mechanical elements, instrumentation
and control & monitoring

Mooring System Arrangements Effect System Integration Considerations
Where will centralised control & monitoring be located?

Design Considerations Mechanical mooring system elements Quick Release Hawser Hooks - QRHs
Coordination of QRH sizing (SWL) between Jetty and FSRU OCIMF guidelines versus MCS – Operational based
“recommendations” versus defined maximum structural limits Located on the Jetty
Semi Permanent nature of FSRU creates special challenges – mechanical equipment difficult to access for maintenance
QRHs may also be utilised by transient LNGC Mooring lines may be terminated by chain stoppers on FSRU –
typically mooring winch brake is the limiting factor Ship-to-Ship FSRU/LNGC
Length of mooring line affects shock absorbing ability Optimizing mooring line arrangement Lines are potentially provided by transient LNGC Pneumatic fenders and deployment system

Design Considerations
Operational and Environmental considerations Who requires monitoring system data?
Plant operations/Process Oversight – FSRU and ashoreTerminal operations floating and ashoreLNGC deck officers
Where will the cargo operations be controlled from? Safe execution of emergency release – assurance that only
the desired vessel is release during an emergency Hazardous versus Non Hazardous
Equipment selection – intrinsically safe electrics and instrumentation

Design Considerations
Overall control and monitoring elements MetOcean and Environmental Docking Aids Mooring System Load Monitoring Interface with Ship-to-Ship Link (SSL)
Where to place the equipment? Who needs the information? Optimization of cabling (FOL, copper, Wireless) Ship-to-Ship Link (SSL) – What is the ESD philosophy across all
vessels? SSL – Hot Line and general comms are consistent across all vessels SSL – will mooring line data be transferred via the link or will an
independent system? The demand for data sharing is increasing...

Project Evolution Petrobras Bahia Regasification Terminal•Petrobras previously implemented Pecem & Guanabara FSRU Terminals•Neither had a monitoring system on board at specification time.•TMS supplied a wireless system later•Petrobras required a permanent monitoring system in the FSRU with a view of all the mooring, Shore Side FSRU & LNGC as well as process data.•A new separate Fibre Optic LAN was specified . Original architecture was using OPC which was not suitable for QRH control. •Trelleborg implemented a solution over Ethernet with multiple protocols over the new LAN that allows data exchange and control of outer hooks from the FSRU without compromising safety. •Data can be viewed from any suitable equipped workstation on the network

Project Evolution Petrobras Bahia Regasification Terminal – FSRU side •Golar Winter•Control of outer jetty hooks•Data output for LNGC via standard SSL MLM Repeater•FSRU has view of Mooring load from LNGC and view of total loads as viewed from Jetty•System has provision for RTK GPS STS docking system (option not taken up yet)•FSRU has access to all Met Ocean data as measured from shore side systems•FSRU controls remote release of all LNGC lines, terminating on FSRU & Jetty•Data can be provided on handheld units (option not taken up yet)
