How does peer to peer work?

Peer to peer

• Servers serve only a handful of clients• Each of the clients in turn send the video

files to other clients • This moves the distribution costs from the

channel owner to the user• Often tricky to control auto downloads in

the players• Uploads may not be free!• Watch your Mb usage

Streaming

• Video sent in a continuous compressed stream

• Needs a player, which decodes the signal and shows the video.

• Do not have to wait to a download a large file

• Start viewing as the file arrives.
