Now that we know why to Certify, let’s

look at How

VERSIV THE INFRASTRUCTURE TESTING PLATFORM THAT DOES IT ALL

• DSX = Versiv main & remote + DSX modules - PLA’s, CHA’s

WHAT IS DSX

Copper Certification

DSX-5000

• DSX-5000 = Copper • CFP = OLTS • OFP = OTDR • Q = Quad OLTS • O = quad OTDR • M = multimode OLTS • S = singlemode OLTS • i = Inspection

• Add = Add-on Kit • R = Remote • NTB = Network Test Bundle

LEVEL V ACCURACY

CLASS FA 1 GHZ - LEVEL V ACCURACY

• To those customer that want top performance, Class FA manufacturers want to demonstrate performance of their systems up to 1GHz. The DSX-5000 adequately meets the proposed for Level V tester requirements. Worst case uncertainty at 1GHz is proposed to be within 1dB comparable with Level-IV at 600MHz.

• Fluke Networks is the 1st Field Testing Company to have: - A FULL and COMPLETE accuracy specification introduced with IEC to

support field testing to Class FA, 1 GHz

- Level V is the new accuracy designation …

- It’s much more than just frequency …

IEC-61935-1 Ed.3 :

BUILT IN ALIEN CROSSTALK: COPPER

• No additional modules needed

- The DSX CableAnalyzer is the FIRST FIELD TESTER to have built in Alien Crosstalk testing

PS ANEXT

• Power Sum Alien Near End Crosstalk

READY FOR TODAY’S AND TOMORROW’S

REQUIREMENTS

Shield integrity • Now it’s just shield continuity is a DC

measurement.

• The DSX-5000 reports distance to shield

integrity issues using a patented AC

measurement technique.

• Finds shield faults in the datacenter – even

with common ground.

Resistance Unbalance:

• Important for successful PoE

operation.

• Specified in IEEE 802.3af and

802.3at.

• Specified in ANSI/TIA-568-C.2.

• Specified in ISO/IEC 11801:2010.

Balance measurements:

• Important for successful 10GBASE-T.

• Specified in ANSI/TIA-568-C.2 & TSBs.

• Specified in ISO/IEC 11801:2010

All the measurements are currently not specified as a field measurement

because it was thought it could never be done in the field. The DSX-5000

CableAnalyzer is the FIRST FIELD TESTER to measure them!

• New advanced diagnostics, reduces the

time required to fix cabling faults.

• HDTDR Return Loss Error Diagnostics.

• HDTDX NEXT Error Diagnostics to “see”

where Crosstalk is happening.

• Uploads to LinkWare for remote help.

POWERFUL COPPER DIAGNOSTICS

Powerful Troubleshooting capabilities are important! No matter how thoroughly the

installation work is being executed, fails do occur. Locating faults can take up a lot time and

jeopardize profit margins.

Far end connection is clearly the issue

• Fa (600 MHz) and Fa (1 GHz)

CLASS FA TEST LIMITS

IEC 61935-1 has not approved testing to 1 GHz (Level V Accuracy) at this time Fluke Networks proposal for Level V accuracy was accepted, so we are giving the customer the option of working to a ratified (600 MHz) or a draft (1 GHz) standard.

• The far end is terminated with an RJ45 plug

IP CAMERAS AND ACCESS POINTS

No warning of different adapters, unlike DTX CableAnalyzer

• Adopting ISO/IEC naming

NEW CABLE TYPES

• Adopting ISO/IEC (US) naming

NEW CABLE TYPES

• Adopting ISO/IEC (US) naming

NEW CABLE TYPES

U/UTP - Individual pairs are unshielded - No overall shield

U/FTP - Individual pairs are shielded - No overall shield

S/FTP - Individual pairs are shielded - Overall shield

• ALL wire mappers would think the shield was connected

• Grounding of two racks makes this happen

• DSX can not only tell you the shield is open

• It can also locate the distance to the shield issue

SHIELD INTEGRITY

• Shield is open at one end due to incorrect termination

SHIELD INTEGRITY

• Even when the two connectors are grounded together

SHIELD INTEGRITY

• Other Wire Maps testers will show this connected

SHIELD INTEGRITY

• An incorrectly terminated shield can adversely affect transmission properties such as Alien Crosstalk

SHIELD INTEGRITY

The data below was taken from a data center where the shield was terminated incorrectly

The Wire Map passed

• Works as long as the resistance unbalance is within xx Ω

ADDITIONAL TESTS FOR POE

• Difference in Resistance between the pair

RESISTANCE UNBALANCE

1.87 Ω

1.85 Ω

Resistance = 3.7 Ω Resistance Unbalance = 0.02 Ω

• Thought it could not be done in the field

• DSX-5000 CableAnalyzer can do it

RESISTANCE UNBALANCE

We’ve had customers complain their PoE would not work, yet it passed the TIA and ISO tests

• Aluminum has a higher resistance than Cu, and is less expensive

• It can be used in CCA cables but these cables are do not meet TIA standards which require pure copper conductors

• Customers don’t want this cable as it is a fire hazard and may not support PoE

Resistive Unbalance - Use test to identify CCA

• Look for (PoE) at the bottom of the TIA and ISO folders

HOW DO I GET RESISTANCE UNBALANCE?

• New folder Balance Measurements

TEST LIMITS

• Transverse Conversion Loss is the ratio (in dB) of a common-mode voltage measured on a wire pair relative to a differential-mode voltage applied to the same end of the pair. The TCL value shows you how well the impedances of the pair’s conductors are balanced.

TCL (TRANSVERSE CONVERSION LOSS)

Differential Signal Applied

Common Mode Voltage Measured

• A high TCL value means that the impedances of the conductors relative to ground are almost equal.

TCL (TRANSVERSE CONVERSION LOSS)

High TCL values correspond to better noise immunity and lower emissions.

• Transverse Conversion Transfer Loss is the ratio (in dB) of a common-mode voltage measured at the far end of a wire pair relative to a differential-mode voltage applied to the near end of the same pair.

• Since TCTL values improve with longer links, we actually use Equal Level Transverse Conversion Loss (ELTCTL)

TCTL (TRANSVERSE CONVERSION TRANSFER LOSS)

Differential Signal Applied

Common Mode Voltage Measured

• Subtracting the effects of insertion loss normalizes the results for length and produces ELTCTL values, which are not dependent on length.

ELTCTL (EQUAL LEVEL TRANSVERSE CONVERSION TRANSFER LOSS)

Because ELTCTL does not depend on length, it is used instead of TCTL to evaluate cable performance. High ELTCTL values correspond to better noise immunity and lower emissions.

• Common-Mode Return Loss is the difference (in dB) between the power of a common-mode signal applied to a wire pair and the power of the common-mode signal reflected back. The signal reflections are caused by variations in the cable’s impedance.

CMRL (COMMON MODE RETURN LOSS

Common Mode Signal Applied

Common Mode Voltage Measured

• CDNEXT is the difference in amplitude (in dB) between a common-mode voltage applied to a pair and the differential mode voltage measured on other pairs at the same end of the cabling.

CDNEXT (COMMON MODE TO DIFFERENTIAL MODE NEAR-END CROSSTALK)

Differential Signal Measured

Common Mode Voltage Applied

• No test standards require CDNEXT measurements. The (+All) Autotest includes the CDNEXT test for troubleshooting purposes only.

CDNEXT (COMMON MODE TO DIFFERENTIAL MODE NEAR-END CROSSTALK)

Higher CDNEXT values correspond to larger differences between the amplitudes of the common-mode and differential mode voltages, which means better cabling performance.

FIBER TESTING

• OFP-QUAD has 3 ICAs ! • What is the reason for

light sources with ICA’s - To match the LC connector

on the patch panel ? - NO the SC is a much more

robust connector - Ease of cleaning !

• To support the one jumper method it is essential to …. 1. … have an ICA on the

meter 2. … have a meter with

non critical connector non-PC with a large photo detector

CERTIFIBER PRO QUAD INTER CHANGEABLE

ADAPTERS

• Optional fiber camera to inspect end face of fiber connectors

INSPECT THE TEST GEAR

• Now the units have warmed up sufficiently

• Press SET REF

• RUN WIZARD will walk you through the process 1. Connect TRC with mandrel (VLM)

2. Press SET REFERENCE

3. Disconnect from Meter and insert second TRC in both paths

4. VERSIV will check whether the TRC are good enough for the job

5. If yes … you are ready to test

6. Let’s connect to the artifact We connect to the good links Main Meter (2) (6) Remote Source Main Source (3) --- (7) Remote Meter

SETTING THE REFERENCE

RUNNING A TEST

• Change back to Main Meter (2) (6) Remote Source Main Source (3) (7) Remote Meter

• We run 3 tests …. “Manual SAVE” !!!

• Encircled Flux (EF) is the final piece in the puzzle to reducing measurement uncertainty in the field

REDUCING MULTIMODE UNCERTAINTY

• Wrong way!

• Issues - You have no idea what the loss is in the adapter

- Whatever it is, it’s subtracted from your measurement

- The uncertainty is horrendous – negative loss

WRONG WAY TO SET REFERENCE

? dB

• For testing an installed fiber optical link, should always use the 1 Jumper Reference Method

• Does require the test equipment to have interchangeable adapters on the INPUT ports

RIGHT WAY TO SET REFERENCE

• Applications:

- Mostly Telecom

- FTTx

- CCTV

- Remote Sensors

• SimpliFiber PRO was better suited for the job then DTX or DSP

• CertiFiber works like/with SimpliFiber PRO

• Competition LT offers bi-directional testing on a single fiber - This is common for deticated Telecom tester but comes at price !

- …. The lack of a non-critical port on the meter side means no support of 1 JumperMethode. EVER !

SINGLE FIBER TESTING

1. Select Power Meter /Light Source Mode

2. Select the remote source

3. Set Reference

4. Connect to Link

5. Wait for result

6. Save Result

SINGLE FIBER TESTING …

REMOTE SIMPLIFIBER PRO LIGHT SOURCE

1. Press on remote CertiFiber PRO the button one and then hold until MM led begins to blinkg Red/Green

2. Select Test Mode “Auto CertifFiber PRO”

3. Perform REF procedure and test identical to procedure for SimpliFiber PRO

PRESS BUTTON

• Quick checking of cords

• Test can be invoked by pressing and holding the button next to VFL for 5 seconds

• Real Time Reading helps to identify cracked cords etc.

A NEW PARADIGM FOR INFRASTRUCTURE CERTIFICATION

Multiple jobs, teams, testers, and requirements – a single error can erode your project’s profitability

Waiting for the project manager or “expert” to set things up and deliver the tester is all too common.

Testing can always be faster: now it is

Multiple skill levels of technicians means that projects are delayed while troubleshooting.

Working in an environment with multiple testers, standards, and test regimes makes generating reports

time consuming ,delaying system acceptance.

Customers struggle to understand multiple complex reports which delays systems acceptance.
