Midwest Laboratories has over 35
years of analytical experience and
has grown in breadth and quality
of services as an environmental
laboratory with a strong base in
agriculture and industry. The
business philosophy of the
company has always been to
operate from one central location
using representatives to expand
their reach.
Today, the six-building campus in
Omaha, Nebraska houses over
80,000 square feet of laboratory
and support area. Each laboratory
maintains its own complement of
staff, instruments and support
personnel matched to the analytical
needs of that particular department.
Midwest services clients
throughout the 50 states and
continues to expand in the areas of
new methodology development and
state of the art instrumentation.

B.R.A.N. stands for
Biological Respiration
and Nitri cation. This
test determines the
aspect of soil quality
relating to overall soil
biology and carbon
content.
The Soil B.R.A.N test
measures active carbon
and not just the content
of raw organic matter.
Crude organic matter
in a soil can be high
without a high state
of soil respiration.
It also measures
soil carbon dioxide
respiration as a
means to gauge
biological soil
fertility.Solvita technology is
used to measure
Biomass and C-N
mineralization potential.
This technology is proven
to be as accurate as
infared and traditional
base-trap CO2 methods.
The Solvita chemistry gel technology utilizes soil
incubation with alkali traps that absorbs a relative
concentration of CO2 proportionate to the total
concentration in the incubation vessel. The
absorbed CO2 produces a colormetric reaction that
is interpreted by a digital color reader. The digital
color reader incorporates diode array detection
technology that selects intensity of red, green
and blue emissions.
