Only use keywords that are related to your app. We still see apps that use keywords that get good traffic and have low competition, but have NOTHING to do with what the app does. People will only download what they searched for.

Using the Sensor Tower Difficulty Rating will help you to easily see which keywords you have a better chance of ranking in the top 10 for. After you track your keywords for a period of time, you will get a feel for what Difficulty Rating you can rank for. This will help you choose keywords that have a similar Difficulty rating, or lower.

It is better to rank in the top 10 for a low traffic keyword, than to rank

Some developers make the mistake of prioritizing traffic over the other two factors. If relevance and difficulty are equal, then choose the keywords that are getting higher traffic.
The only exception is if a keyword has zero traffic. Cross those off the list immediately, unless it is part of a good keyword phrase.

If you are not ranking in the top 10 for a keyword, take it out and find a better one. The only exception is if the keyword is part of a good keyword phrase. In the example below, #20 is not a terrible ranking, but you may be able to do better.
