Suffering from

Communication Studies Overload?

Do you feel all alone

in a world of innumerable theories and methods?

Introducing…

Wah?

Everyone in the class has been researching a theory…

…now its time for show and tell.

I sense mild skepticism

Allow me to explain.

every comm. student should know about your theory and/or topic (hint-you should have an idea about how your theory applies to a particular area of the

communication world).

You will present to the class the most important things

Stop looking at me like that.

Guess how many facts you will present…

Hint. Hint.

That’s right, Five!

I’m even going to tell you what the five things are.

Five things comm. students should know about ________.

1. What is it? (or how it is defined?)

(your theory/topic)

Five things comm. students should know about ________.

2. Who uses it? (what areas of comm. studies or who are the one or two important people to know about?)

Five things comm. students should know about ________.

3. So what... (what’s the point? How is this important in comm. studies?)

Five things comm. students should know about ________.

4. Criticism (What criticism of the topic is there or what disagreements have there been about it?)

Five things comm. students should know about ________.

5. Presenter’s choice (that’s you! What else should we know to get what this topic is all about?)

Five things comm. students should know about ________.

1. What is it? 2. Who uses it? 3. So what... 4. Criticism 5. Presenter’s choice

(your topic)

and…

You will present your Topic Top Five in an electronic presentation.

Note: You must follow the guidelines of presentations you learned about.

so…

No using default themes

…and no bullet points…

…of any kind.

Be Visual.

Don’t overdo it.

Don’t use clip art, low resolution images, animations, transitions, or anything else that doesn’t help make your point.

To submit your

Topic Top Five…

1. Join Slideshare.

2. Upload your presentation (publically).

3. Post the URL for your presentation to the discussion board (topic = presentations).

Done.

You don’t seem as happy as I thought you would be.

Would it help to know that your presentation won’t be due until at least July 8th?

Your presentation must be posted on the Monday of the week your last name appears.

Week 9 (July 8th): Arnson, Chappell, Johnson, Scaggs, Noone, Elliot, Barolak, Ravaioli

Week 10 (July 15th): Boatwright, Young, Schneider, Quintero, Keller, Dewar, Greene, Tribuiani

Week 11 (July 22nd): Yoder, Jefferson, Woods, Ladd, Marlowe, Nelson, Phillips, Socolow

This is a good thing, really.

Instead of having to learn all this stuff on your own, you get to learn it in short, clear presentations from your classmates.

OK, now you’re patronizing me.

well, get to work.

Add encouraging cliché here.

(i.e. hope, new day dawning, ray of light, etc.)
