Urbanization – definition

Urbanization is the physical growth of urban areas from rural areas as a result of population immigration to an existing urban area.

Rapid Urbanization and Land requirement

• 30% of population live in urban areas• 50% would live in urban areas by 2020

according to Bhutan 2020 report• 73% urbanization level in 2020• At present urban population density, by

2020, 17,000 Ha of additional land required to meet the demand. i.e. 27% of entire arable land
