Monitoring for Data

• CWA Requirements

• Strategic Monitoring Plan

• Cooperative Monitoring

Monitoring for Clean Water Act

DWQ is responsible for implementing and enforcing Clean Water Act

 Monitoring is performed to:

 Assess conditions

 Set state standards

Ensure current health and environmental standards are met

Monitoring for Clean Water Act

Section 319(h)(11) 40 CFR 31.45 Section 303(d) N/A Inspection Reports

Objective 305(b) Reporting. The primary assessment of state water quality; leads to the development of water quality management plans.

Clean Lake Report. State reports on the status and trends of water quality in lakes

303(d) List. State identifies waters that are impaired; causes and sources of impairment, prioritizes waters targeted for TMDL development

The State reports on the activities, summary of projects, environmental accomplishments, federal consistency, status of grants, reductions in nonpoint source loadings. Water quality monitoring included in 305(b) report.

Ensures reliability of the procedures used to obtain data for all reports.

The TMDL section prepares a report identifying the cause(s) and source(s) of the impairment, the amount of each pollutant that comes from point sources and nonpoint sources, the background or natural component of the pollutant is also quantified, allocation of reduction and establishment of endpoints.

Utah Geological Survey Aquifer Classification Reports (DWQ reviews), Water-Resources Investigation Reports (Prepared by USGS with cooperation of the DWQ).
