Why children need sleep

The body systems do not shut down

Some brain activity increases during sleep.

Memory and Learning requires sleep.

Concentration and focus are required for optimal mental exertion

A rested mind will perform at its best.

Teens need about 8.5 – 9 hours every night.

Sufficient sleep is necessary for learning.

Sleep patterns change during growth because the brain’s biological clock shifts.

The shift is a delay in the sleep/wake cycle.

Studies show:

The reaction times of adolescents are much better in the afternoon that they are in the morning.

And that students perform better in the afternoon that in the morning.

So, scheduling test first thing in the morning is not a

good idea.

Sure it does….

What can you do?

Decrease TV, phone, and the Internet time.

Inform them why its important to get a good nights rest.
