AvailabilityAny computer with Internet and a

browser can use Web 2.0 tools. Wherever you go, there they are.

AvailabilityMany school districts require that all

new software be installed by technology personnel, but have too few personnel to quickly respond to teacher requests. That means that software than needs to be bought or downloaded and installed may not be ready when you need it.

AvailabilityMany classrooms have older, out of

date computers that may not be able to run powerful software like Flash, Photoshop or GIMP.

AvailabilityWeb2.0 is free, with nothing to

download. You can’t beat that.

AvailabilityMany students may not have the

resources to own a computer, or have specialized software on the computer if they do. However, most can access computers at a library, and many can access the internet through smart phones and video game consoles.

ConnectivityClassroom blogs and social network

sites can help you securely communicate with students and parents. They can foster ongoing discussions, and can be used to involve students with long-term illnesses or injury via chat functions.

VarietyThere are over 3,000 Web 2.0

tools, with more created every day. You can find tools for almost any grade level, any subject, and any purpose.
