Azerbaijan, officially the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan

Respublikası) is the largest country in the Caucasus region located at

the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. Known for its

wealth of crude oil and natural gas reserves, Azerbaijan is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia

to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west,

and Iran to the south. The exclave of Nakhchivan is bounded by

Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and west, while

having a short borderline with Turkey to the northwest.

Aserbaidschan (aserbaidschanisch Azərbaycan) ist ein Binnenstaat in

Vorderasien zwischen dem Kaspischen Meer und dem Kaukasus. Aserbaidschan

grenzt im Norden an Russland (Dagestan), im Nordwesten an Georgien, im Süden an

den Iran und im Westen an Armenien sowie – über die Exklave Nachitschewan – an die Türkei. Die Exklave und autonome Republik Nachitschewan wird durch einen

armenischen Gebietsstreifen vom aserbaidschanischen Kernland getrennt. Nachitschewan grenzt im Westen an die

Türkei, im Süden an den Iran und im Osten an Armenien. Die Hauptstadt von

Aserbaidschan ist Baku (aserbaidschanisch Bakı), eine bedeutende Hafenstadt am Kaspischen Meer. Die Gesamtfläche des

Landes beträgt 86.600 Quadratkilometer.
