 India's forest cover increased by 728 sq km during 2005-07 — a marginal rise of 0.03%. Overall, 21.02% of the country's geographical area is now under green cover. In the 10 years, forest cover in the country has increased by 3.31 million hectares, showing an average 0.46% increase every year.

A national park is a reserve of national ,semi national,or developed land that a state declares or owns.

National parks

 India's first national park was established in 1936 as Hailey National Park, now known as Jim Corbett National Park

First national park

 All national park lands then encompassed a total 39,919 km2 (15,413 sq mi) km², comprising 1.21% of India's total surface area.

As of April 2012, there were 102 national parks.

Now a total of 166 national parks have been authorized.
