Saint John’s Day or “Joninės” (June 24th)

It is one of the greatest yearly celebrations and the longest summer night, esp. if your name is John!

Statehood Day(July 6th)

Commemorates the crowning of Lithuania’s first king, Mindaugas.

Klaipėda Sea Festival(end July/start of August)

Vilnius Jazz Festival(mid-October)

Every year a 3 to 4 day jazz festival is held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Assumption Day or Žolinė (September 15th )

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven was the day when she was taken into Heaven at the end of her life on Earth.

All Saints’ Day(November 1st).

Every Lithuanian commemorates the ones who’ve passed away. Cemeteries look incredible with all the candles lit up.

Christmas eve or Kūčios (December 24th). Twelve different dishes were served. An empty plate is set for family or friends lost within the past year. The Christmas Eve dinner is left out overnight to ‘feed’ all friends and family lost.

Christmas(December 25th and 26th)

A day of celebrations with friends and family to commemorate the birth of Jesus.

New Year’s Eve(December 31st)

Three Kings Day(January 6th)

Today it symbolizes the end of the winter holidays.

Independence Day(February 16th)

Lithuanians come together to commemorate the signing of the Act of Independence of Lithuania, on February 16th, 1918.

International Women’s Day(March 8th)

Like many other countries, each year, Lithuanians celebrate women’s economic, political, and social achievements.
