What’s its name: The Arch of Peace

2.Where is it located? in Italy, Milan, located in the Piaza Sempione, in front of Sforza Castle.

3. When it was built? It was commissioned by Napoleon.

After his defeat at the battle of Waterloo the monument remained unfinished.

In 1826 Francis I of Austria ordered that the construction was completed but this time, it would be a monument to European peace, achieved in 1815.

In 1833, the Arch was finally completed by Francesco Peverelli (and Francesco,EmperorFerdinand I of Austria).

4.Why it was built Napoleon ordered its construction in order to celebrate its continued victories.

However, after final defeat, his great project was unfinished until the following two decades when the then King of Austria (Francis I) demanded that the arch was completed and dedicated to peace who lived in Europe at that time .

It is known that the construction of the arch was completed in the year 1838.

In 1859 it became a monument to the independence of Italy and the Inscriptions on the Cornice dedicated to Francesco 1st and Ferdinando 1st were substituted by
