Get a “Rentenversicherungsnummer” (RVNR). This literally means insurance pension
number: its a twelve-digit pension insurance number which you have for life and certifies
your membership in the pension scheme.
Your employer can get the RVNR for you. They will notify your medical insurance fund that you
have commenced paid employment. This will trigger the allocation of the insurance number by
the applicable pension insurance agency and this will then be communicated to you.
