Visiting Venice in Style:

Can’t Miss Spots and Attractions

Fun Facts About Venice

Venice is located in the Venetian lagoon.

This water wonderland is made up of 118 small islands.

The city is separated by a maze of canals.

It’s linked by more than 400 bridges.

The Venetian neighborhood is known as Sestieri.

Part of Venice’s

charm is its

narrow alleys

known as calle,

tiny streets and

bridges in the six

Sestieri.

Favorite Churches

This Italo-Byzantine styled Basilica di

San Marco has been nicknamed as

Chiesa d’Oro (Church of Gold) for its

magnificent design, gold round

mosaics and its status as a symbol of

Venetian wealth and power.

Located right on the Grand Canal in

the Dosoduoro section of town, the

Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute or

simply Salute to Venetians, rises up

as a testament to the end of a terrible

plague in the early1600s.

In contrast to the extravagant styles of

the Basilica San Marco and the Salute

churches stands San Giorgio

Maggiore, a masterpiece of Palladian

symmetry and restraint. It is directly

located across the Grand Canal from

Piazza San Marco.

Cultural Outings

Le Gondole di Venezia

The gondola, piloted by a stripe-clad

Venetian, is perhaps the most iconic

symbol of this watery city known as

Serenissima.

A must for any

visitor to Venice,

a gondola ride is

approx. €80 for

40 minutes as set

by the city

government.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is an extraordinary collection of

contemporary art that includes works by artistic greats ranging from

Duchamp, Mondrian, Kandinsky and Pollock. It is housed in the

18th century Palazzo Venier dei Leoni

on the Grand Canal.

Wear your most

stylish dress and

mingle with the

most elegant

Venetians at the

Teatro La Fenice.

The ornate theatre is one of the most

important opera houses in Venice and

Europe. You can also take a

scheduled tour of this important piece

of Venetian history during the day.

The Venetian Way of Life

Make an early start to your day and

head to the colorful Rialto market in

the San Polo neighborhood. Fruits,

vegetable and fish are stacked in

artful piles for your viewing pleasure.

The irregular-shaped Campo Santa

Margherita is located on the Dosoduoro

neighborhood. Daily food markets being

set up, locals walking the dogs and

picking up the daily paper are what starts

the day here. In the evening, stop by for a

passigiata and glass of wine.

Venetians tell the story of local wine

sellers placing their barrels in the

shade of the bell tower in Piazza San

Marco to protect them from heat of

the sun.

Pic of andare…This is how the

phrase andare alle

ombre – let’s meet

in the shade – came

to mean meeting for

a drink and a snack

in Venetian dialect.

Stylish Sips

The vast and dramatic

Piazza San Marco is

filled with stylish

stores and historic

cafes. The best

place for a top notch

cocktail is

Cafe Quaddri.

Located at the

bustling Piazza San

Marco, Café Florian

has been part of the

Venetian culture

since 1720.

Room after room of

faded frescos, velvet

couches and marble

topped tables make Café

Florian one of the coziest

spots for a cup of coffee

or an indulgent hot

chocolate on a cool day.

Historic, elegant and

iconic, Harry’s Bar at the

Cipriani hotel is a

national landmark. Sit at

the long wooden bar and

order a bellini, which is

made from pureed white

peaches and ice cold

prosecco.

Make the most of your euros and

visit the Venice Connected

website to purchase vaporetto

(water taxi) tickets ahead of time

at a reduced price.
