Egyptian-Art-Inspired Personality Road Map Grid Drawings
Travel
• During the Egyptian new kingdom, there was an expansion of trade with Asia and the Aegean Islands
• How do you think this affected Egypt?• How do you think Egypt affected Asia and the
Aegean Islands?
Travel
• Think of the places to which YOU have traveled:– They can be as far away as Southeast Asia or as
nearby as downtown Denver, or your next-door neighbor’s house
– Distance doesn’t matter!
Travel
• Think about how your travels have affected you, how they have impacted who you are– Did they change your mind about something?– Did they teach you something new?– Did they show you something you’ve never seen
before?– Are they places you go frequently?– Is it a place you’ve only been to once? Would you
want to go back again?– Did it change anything central to your personality?
Travel
• Places I’ve traveled that have had a big impact on who I am or that taught me new things:– Cyprus– Greece (islands and mainland)– Italy– Egypt– China

Assignment
• Using places you’ve traveled as inspiration (whether they are near or far), design a “Road-Map-Self-Portrait”– Think of imagery involving your travels– Concepts you’ve learned on your travels
• Designing your self-portrait:– What media do you want to use? – Mixed media is suggested, but not required.– Any found objects you can include? Maps? Ticket stubs?– Good idea to focus on your face so the grid can help you
more efficiently
Assignment
• There are many ways to approach this project • One way is to create a silhouette containing
imagery from your travels that has contributed to who you are/your personality
• Although the examples I’m about to show you omit facial features in this technique, I will ask that you find a way to include them along with your other images
