Market Shots Analysis and Interview Questions
In this shot I walked from one end of the shopping isle to the other without a shoulder mount or tripod. This is because I was told I needed to be discreet about filming as I didn’t have total rights to film there. This shot is slightly shaky, but I think that it adds to the affect of the fast paced, edgy atmosphere of the market at night.
I then went into the Entremettier area of the warehouse. These two people said no to being interviewed as they were too busy, however they said I could film them whilst they worked. They were listening to really loud, intense Indian music which I will isolate the audio of to lay over some of the establishing shots and cutaways.
I will intercut this scene with a close up and pull focus of the music playing.
I filmed from a low angle perspective the CCTV cameras to show the different areas of Entremettier. This adheres to the conventions of a documentary that often use CCTV footage to illuminate the voice over.
In this shot I went behind the scenes to show the staff loading up the vast amount of produce into their vans. This matches an interview when Mark talks about how long it takes to load up the fruit and veg into the vans.
After my visit to the market I noticed that the view of the vans coming out looked aesthetically pleasing on the tarmac. I took a number of videos of the vans leaving, loading and coming in.
I also noticed that there was a full moon, I filmed the clouds passing over the brightness of the moon showing how late it is and the eerie atmosphere.
This is Mark, I talked to him about my film and he very kindly showed me around the place! He was absoloutley BRILLIANT on camera and I can’t wait to use his interview in my film. I placed him with a backdrop of crates of fruit and with a sharp white flourescent light reflecting on the side of his face.
I also interviewed him from this angle as I scouted this angle and location in my previous visit. The vans running behind him throughout this interview shows the fast paced nature of the industry.
I interviewed Tom and Laur, who work inside the shopping isle picking up the loads of fruit and vegetables. They were both very nervous in front of the camera, this interview was harder to conduct than Marks.
This is Bob he is the boss of the tropical fruit company. He was fairly angry about the camera and the interview footage is essentially unusable as he would not answer my questions about the night shift!
Mark also let me into the office of Entremettier where they receive phone calls asking for the quantities of fruit and vegetables. I am going to isolate the audio of the phone call which asks for “1500 parsnips!”.
I filmed this phone call from other angles to have some varied shots in my documentary.
