Genre: American Hip Hop

Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J59UasgEqTw

Type: Performance

Page 3: Assignment 31 – group 4 pitch

UNIQUE SELLING POINT AND OTHER INFORMATION

The USP for the artist is his hair and headphones. It is brown and curly at the top and shaved at the side with it partially dyed blonde at the top. He always wears his headphones as a USP as it relates him with his love for music.

This offers a comedic and memorable selling point as it is very recognisable and easy to represent in our digipak.

The conventions we will include in our video will be the performer rapping into the camera with lots of other performers around him dancing.

We will include some urban and hip hop dancing in the video to make it entertaining and to help it fit the genre.

SUMMARY OF THE IDEA

This video will be purely performance with no narrative. I will break it up with lots of establishing shots and other shots of the performers dancing. The costumes will be very trendy and extravagant and they will be well fitted to the genre. For example skinny, ripped jeans with a long tee shirt and bling will work perfectly. It will start of with the camera zoomed in on the main performers face with his headphones on. It will be playing the music in his hears but you will hear it out loud and then as the music starts to build up, it will zoom out to the whole bedroom. As the beat drops he will perform a dance move which then graphic matches to outside in the garden rapping with his mates dancing in the back. This repeats 4 times to show each setting. As the rapping starts, the first base track of him rapping and walking will play.

UNIQUE SELLING POINT AND OTHER INFORMATION

The artists USP is that he is in hospital attire and is in a wheelchair. This represents his illness and highlights the importance of it. It will be easy to show off in the music video an will allow us to theme the digipak around his costume.

The conventions will include a deep and personal message that’s being told and will try to have a lasting effect on the audience.

SUMMARY OF THE IDEA

The idea features a narrative as well as performance. The narrative will be the performer and he will be laying down on a hospital bed whilst signing however the audience will not know this till the end and will assume its just a normal bed. He will also be performing in a hospital bathroom in front of the mirror and various locations. The narrative is based on the artists bucket list as he is dying. The music video will consist of the artists and his close friends travelling to different locations of interest such as the Windsor Castle, Virginia Water, London Eye etc. The music video will transition frequently between performance and narrative to keep it interesting. The link between the two will be unclear until the end in which the audience find out that it was for his bucket list. The final scenes will be all his friends with him in the hospital room as he sings to the camera.

IDEA 3 – IMPOSSIBLE JAMES ARTHUR

Genre: Pop, Soul Type: Performance/Narrative

YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJqbaGloVxg

Page 10: Assignment 31 – group 4 pitch

UNIQUE SELLING POINT The main USP within this video will be the use of a red rose which

would be evident in both narrative and performance. The rose will be symbolic of love and this colour will be

emphasized throughout.* This is recognisable as it will be the prominent feature throughout

and provide a memorable item that the audience will remember. Similarly, a styling USP would be the use of scarf with other trendy

clothes. The scarf will be prominent throughout and also provide a memorable feature.

*The rose could turn to a dark colour nearing the end of the video to show love running out etc. (Rot? Dying?)

Page 11: Assignment 31 – group 4 pitch

OTHER INFORMATION The video will be challenging as we would have to link the rose

symbolically to the narrative. We would also have to use good editing techniques e.g. colour correction to show the rose dying/rotting toward the end of the narrative. Also, to build the narrative so the audience knows what it is. The area of filming and its accessibility.

Styling: Trendy trench coat with scarf, Smart shirt/polo, stylish jeans with smart

shoes (Rose) suitable to the genre. Evident in both narrative and performance.

Conventions: The style of the performer, love or love related narrative.

Page 12: Assignment 31 – group 4 pitch

SUMMARY OF IDEA The story will build around the aspect of love and a relationship. The performance be mostly still singing to the camera, with some walking

toward the camera (Quite slow, soul aspect) The story would start with the performer walking out of a florist with a rose. We

then see a build up of time related activities, such as time lapses on the train/underground and in a busy built up area. Walking through crowds of people, through backstreets of London etc.

It shows the aspect of a journey which the rose will be evident (Urban area), however, as the narrative progresses and the journey gets longer, the rose will be dying and fading.

The end of the narrative will show the performer walking into a hospital and facing an empty hospital bed. He then drops the rose and runs out, the rose will be focused on and it will be dead, symbolic of the harsh ending of a relationship.
