The Citrex Fruit Company, using the most modern production methods available, produces the finest quality Key Limes (Citrus aurantifolia) from tropical citrus trees on its farm in central Guatemala. The Citrex co-founders, with their combined fifty years of production, management, farming and export experience, have created a system that produces Key Limes with standards of production, hygiene, social-consciousness and service to satisfy the most demanding markets and consumers.

After conducting a location study that included analysis of the soil , climate , and environmental impact, Citrex selected the property for its Key Lime project and now has 16,000 lime trees, grown from carefully selected seedlings, at its farm in Las Ovejas, Guatemala. The property is 1000 feet above sea level, with a perfect climate for growing Key Limes. Citrex has constructed a 20,000-square foot building in which its processing facilities are located. The region of Las Ovejas is considered underdeveloped, and the local population has welcomed the positive economic and social impact of our farm on their area.

Sowing, Maintenance and Harvest

Beginning from the seedling, Citrex identifies all the tie information concerning the limes ( including sowing, production applications and irrigation ) and keeps it in a unique data base that is administered and monitored by qualified personnel.

The system allows for traceability of the fruit according to these criteria:

•Sector •Lot number•Method of sowing and maintenance•Applied treatments•Date of harvest

Cutting-Edge Technology

AUTOMATED FERTIRRIGATION SYSTEM

Citrex uses water from its own wells and controls the irrigation process with a tank and filters that permit the use of drip irrigation and fertirrigation to obtain the greatest number of flowers and the optimum quality of fruit throughout the year.

Process, Post-harvest,Packing and Storage

Upon harvesting, Citrex washes, dries, waxes and packs the limes in compliance with hygiene and other requirements of the most demanding markets. Immediately after processing, the fruit is carefully packed and placed in a cold storage that maintains the ideal temperature for suspending the maturation process. Limes are then shipped in refrigerated containers at the same temperature, so that the fruit comes to market with exactly the color and appearance that consumers prefer.
