One thing to note when looking at the contents page of this hip hop magazine is that there is a title signifying that it is actually the contents. This is always helpful when looking through magazines as sometimes you can easily flick through and miss it’s a contents page due to the lack of writing on them. We can see that it isn’t all just one word and that its unstructured, this may have been done to add to a particular style of the magazine creating synergy. The main image of this contents page is of course Kanye west. This is very important in making the contents page interesting. Normally people skip the contents page as its boring however using an iconic artist like Kanye west, people feel obliged to look at it. Also it has direct address with the reader, this helps to create the idea of belonging between reader and magazine, this of course being one of Maslow's basic needs. On the right hand side we can see the selection of subject being contained in the magazine. Although they are a little more difficult to read its clear to knowledge the separation of stories through fonts and size of text. We also have page numbers to navigate through the magazine. There is also sub heading of types of stories in the magazine being; features and fashion. This is very important in allowing the reader to have knowledge of what's inside the magazine before purchasing. The colouring of this particular contents page is very contrasting of the hip hop magazine front covers I have recently looked at. Rather than the bright reds and golds we can see a more black and white gradient over the whole page. Its noticeable that Kanye west blends in with the page, this may be to create synergy between the two and to tell the reader that the whole page is relevant and important.

Features of this content page are really evident and easy to acknowledge. They are in black colour on a white background making them impossible to miss as these colours are ultimate contrasting shades. Also page numbers have been displayed next to each subject in red, the effect of this is one to create synergy with the rest of the page as it contains this colour. There is a order in which they have been arranged meaning that they are all in “formation” this makes them all easy to read as none of it is in obscure places or being covered by anything else.

The main image for this contents page, similarly to the other ones I have analysed is a very iconic artist in the hip hop scene. 50 cent is covering the whole page from top to bottom making him very difficult to miss. This is important in creating some sort of interest in this page. As per usual there is direct address and as we know all magazines have done this as we understand to create a relationship between the two, reader and magazine. This is majorly important in getting the reader intrigued into the rest of the magazine.

Colouring gin this contents page is very familiar to those of the front cover. This seems to be the common style of hip hop magazines, to have bland colours of white and black then a bright colour signifying danger or wealth like yellow or red. The colour red has been used effectively in this example, allowing us to see page numbers, issue numbers.

Here is a more detailed contents page. It looks a lot more detailed than the other two I have analysed. This one has an almost masthead, “the a side” is displayed at the top of the page even though it isn’t the institution of the magazine. It’s the theme of this magazine, therefor by looking at the contents we have a instant idea of what the magazine contains without looking at the features.

The main image also unlike the other two contain two iconic artists. The 50 cent icon has appeared twice now and also the addition of soulja boy, this suggests that by the normal way to have a contents page is to have a selection of features on one side and a main image on the other.

Features- a common theme in all three contents I have analysed is that the features, are organised in a formation aligned to the main image. I feel that this has been done to create a neat page that is easy to navigate. This is because the content page is to find parts of the actual magazine so it only makes sense that the contents is really easy to look around.

Colours of tis magazine are almost identical to the second magazine. I have noticed that white is a safe colour as a background and red seems to be the most iconic colour for page numbers and little signs.
