In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In this presentation I’m going to talk about how my Digipak and Album advert use,

develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products.

To the left is my magazine album advert. I think that magazine album advert is very effective and use’s, develops and challenges forms and conventions of real media products in its own individual way. The main conventions of album adverts are: Album name, Artists name and a main image. My album conveys all of these conventions because I think that they are very important to state otherwise this could lead to a confused target audience which would lead to an ineffective promotional package. I think that over the range of my promotional package there is clear synergy between the advert, digipak and music video which is vital in order to create and effective package.

These are two screen grabs that I have taken from my album advert. These are slightly less conventional codes for magazine album adverts however are quite popular. The top one tells the audience that this is there debut album which excels the excitement for the album more.

The second screen grab has been made popular by the upcoming demand for social media and the acceleration in technology. With the platforms for experiencing media becoming endless the demand for more accessible media is very high.

Much like my magazine album advert this Katy Perry album advert is very similar in terms of layout and forms and conventions used. It uses many of the same conventions. For instance the title of the artist and the album name are clearly laid in bold text that is eye catching and easy to read. This is also the same with my title and album name. In the Katy Perry advert she has also stated that “The New Album” this is again similar to what I wrote on my advert. I used research and analysis to find out the codes and conventions in order to convey them in my own work, I felt in doing this my promotional package as a whole would be more realistic, more effective and be widely considered as a worth while product.

Digipak

Below is my blog copy of my digipak. Again I think that my digipak is very effective and helps to promote synergy across my promotional package. The overall house style fits my snowboarding theme with the use of beautiful images that fit my music video and my album advert. I have used the same font and colors to create continuity across the board.

When researching and constructing my digipak I looked at a lot of existing products to gain inspiration and understand more about how they all fit together. This Katy Perry digipak uses the same style of images in the inside panel. I decided that I wanted to go for something similar to this and I used two panorama images on both sides. I decided to do this because it includes a lot of scenery and when it comes to mountains its hard to get a lot detail with just a landscape shot.
